The Renaissance-style Mellenthin moated castle is a historic estate dating back to 1575, located in the heart of the Usedom Island Nature Park.

“Mellenthin” comes from the Slavic language and means “center.” Right there, at the center of the island of Usedom, stands Mellenthin Water Castle. The castle consists of a two-story main building with two single-story side wings that enclose the courtyard. Inside the castle, the elaborately designed entrance hall is impressive, with its ceiling supported by a column. The eye-catcher here is a magnificent fireplace with rich Renaissance ornamentation. In the 19th century, the Mellenthin estates were sold at forced auction, and the owners changed frequently until the dissolution of the estate district in 1928. After 1945, the castle was used as a kindergarten, administrative office, and residential space.

In 2001, the Fidora family acquired the building and opened the hotel, complete with a restaurant, café, roastery, and brewery. There is much to discover here. The hotel blends elegantly into the west wing of the complex and is complemented by the former granary—once the castle’s outbuilding across the bridge—which now surprises guests with its own distinct room categories.

The rooms are comfortable, stylish, and designed with great attention to detail. Spacious, modern bathrooms with elegant granite create a sense of calm and freshness. Warm tones permeate the entire building, creating a cozy atmosphere that invites you to unwind and noticeably lets everyday life fade into the background. In the wellness area, guests can relax in the sauna.

Usedom delights with miles of white sandy beaches and green forests behind the dunes, ideal for hiking and cycling. Numerous attractions, from the butterfly farm to the Peenemünde Historical Technical Museum, offer variety for all generations. A 27-hole golf course is also located in the immediate vicinity of Mellenthin Castle.
