Schloss Rattey
Hotel & Winery
A castle hotel set in a historic mansion, surrounded by vineyards and a park featuring a significant collection of historic trees.
The rooms exude tranquility and comfort, and the vaulted cellar features a small wellness area with a hot tub and sauna. The estate is ideal for vacations as well as celebrations and weddings. The farm shop offers regional products and a café. The castle restaurant serves regional and seasonal dishes.
The rooms in the castle captivate with their historic charm in a modern style. Additional rooms and suites are available in the modern annex. What makes this property special? It is home to the largest winery in Northern Germany. Guests can stroll through the vineyards and enjoy wine tastings.
The estate offers special rooms for conferences and weddings.
In 1690, Gustav Adolf, Duke of Mecklenburg-Güstrow, granted the estate to Georg-Henning von Oertzen. His son, Hans-Christoph von Oertzen, had the manor house—a two-story plastered building in the Neoclassical style—constructed in 1806 on the foundations of an older structure.
The landscape park was created at the same time. Particularly impressive are the 13 oak trees on the so-called Pferdekoppel, estimated to be at least 700 years old. The Rattey manor house was sold by the von Oertzen family to the municipality at the end of World War II. The family left Mecklenburg after the failed assassination attempt on Hitler, in which Hans-Ulrich von Oertzen played a key role. After the war, refugees initially moved into the building; later, the rooms were also used by a kindergarten, the post office, and the collective farm kitchen. From 1996 to 1998, in keeping with classical architectural principles, Rattey Castle underwent extensive renovation and was converted into a castle hotel.
Right next to Rattey Castle, on approximately 40 hectares of cultivated land, the largest winery in northern Germany has been established—currently planted with the white grape varieties Phoenix, Solaris, Muscaris, Helios, Souvignier Gris, Johanniter, Blütenmuskateller, Donauriesling, Donauveltliner, and Riesling, as well as the red varieties Regent, Rondo, Monarch, Cabernet
Cortis, and Cabernet Cantor.
