Poggelow Castle is located in the village of Poggelow in Mecklenburg Switzerland and offers a breathtaking view of its own pond from the covered terrace. The garden features a barbecue area for cozy evenings, as well as a small houseboat with a rowboat, perfect for enjoying relaxing moments in nature. Guests can even bring their own horses, which can be accommodated in the adjacent paddock with a shelter.

Poggelow Castle has an impressive history as part of the great noble family of the von Bassewitz. The nobles of Poggelow Castle gained recognition for their brave chivalrous deeds and diplomatic service to the king, which took them as far as England, Stockholm, Copenhagen, and St. Petersburg. This history is documented in the castle’s coat of arms.

The castle’s façade was restored and repainted in 2017 in accordance with historic preservation regulations. The grand hall can accommodate up to 22 people and is ideal for wonderful evenings and large celebrations. In addition, there is a small fireplace room, a tea room with a TV, and a larger separate kitchen. The basement features a fitness room, a sauna, a home bar with a wood-burning stove, as well as foosball, a table tennis room, and a billiards room. Here, guests will also find the large heated indoor swimming pool with a beautiful view of the garden.

The guest apartments are spread over a total of three floors and feature their own small kitchenettes, bathroom/toilet, and, in most cases, a private living room. This layout ensures that all residents always have privacy and a place to retreat.

It takes about an hour to drive to Schloss Poggelow from the cities of Rostock, Wismar, Greifswald, and Stralsund. The state capital, Schwerin, with its castle, is also worth a visit. If the region’s many lakes aren’t enough for swimming, you can head to the Baltic Sea beach.
