Schloss Gültz

Still under renovation

This mansion, built in the villa style, is surrounded by a landscaped park designed by Peter Joseph Lenné.

It is still undergoing renovation. Guided tours of the park and use of the grounds as an event and photo/film location are already available. The grounds are also ideal for weddings, corporate events, and cultural gatherings.

Built between 1868 and 1872 according to designs by Schwerin’s building inspector Georg Daniel, the manor house combines the elegance of northern Italian villa architecture with elements of Prussian historicism. A total of 99 rooms are spread across 2,278 m².

In 1840, Axel Freiherr von Maltzahn commissioned the director of the royal gardens to develop a comprehensive beautification plan for Gültz.  Three ponds define the park’s landscape: the Castle Pond, the Wind Harp Pond with its striking headland, and the Rose Pond with a small island. Peter Joseph Lenné, who had been in the service of Court Marshal Burchard Friedrich Freiherr von Maltzahn since 1816, produced a total of eleven designs for Pomeranian estates that year. Thus, an outstanding testament to Prussian landscape beautification emerged on the Tollense River—a Pomeranian counterpart to the Potsdam palace landscape.
