Schloss Alt Sammit
A castle near Krakow am See
Nestled in a peaceful rural setting, this red-brick castle features modern vacation apartments.
Alt Sammit is situated in a scenic location near the Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heide Nature Park, which features extensive woodlands and small forest lakes. The first documented mention of the village dates back to 1274. The name may derive from the Old Slavic word “Sammu.” “Sammute” means “the independent one.” For centuries, Alt Sammit was a manor village. The castle, along with its stables and servants’ quarters, was built in 1674 by the von Weltzin family. The von Weltzin family founded and managed the estate for generations until the end of the 18th century. After the old castle fell into disrepair at the end of the 19th century, the new manor house was built between 1880 and 1888.
It is a two-story brick building with a mezzanine floor, constructed above a basement built of fieldstone. A half-story is located beneath the tiled gable roof. After World War II, refugees and displaced persons moved into the manor house. In 1969, the state-owned Ganschow stud farm moved into the building and operated a training and recreation center there until 1991. Gradually, the largest equestrian tourism center in the GDR emerged in Krakow. After five years of standing vacant and falling into disrepair, the castle passed into private ownership in 1996 and was lovingly restored. Since May 2007, it has been possible to vacation at Alt-Sammit Castle; vacation apartments, a banquet hall, and a conference room have been created.
The castle features eight comfortable, cozy vacation apartments of various sizes that evoke a touch of nostalgia. The apartments on the upper floor are accessible by elevator. All units are furnished to make guests feel right at home. They are cozy and comfortably furnished vacation apartments featuring living and sleeping areas combined, with a TV, as well as a bathroom with a shower and toilet. The apartments on the first and second floors are easily accessible by elevator. A whiskey distillery has recently been established in the old vaulted cellar.
The beautiful countryside offers numerous opportunities for recreation, such as extensive and, in many places, very unspoiled forests with plenty of hiking and biking trails, plenty of water with secluded swimming spots, and small and large towns in the surrounding area that are worth a visit. In and around Alt Sammit, there are activities to suit every taste. Swimming, hiking, biking, fishing, water sports, horseback riding, or carriage rides are all ideal here, and in the fall, you can go mushroom picking. Thanks to the immediate proximity to a riding stable, guests can arrive with their own horses or go on rides with rental horses. The surrounding area offers numerous opportunities for horseback riding and swimming with horses. The international Berlin-Copenhagen cycling route runs directly through Alt Sammit.
Alt Sammit Castle serves as a branch of the Krakow am See Registry Office and offers a beautiful venue for weddings as well as a banquet hall. The banquet hall can also be furnished for meetings or conferences.
Top: Away from the noise and hustle and bustle, in an idyllic forest and lakeside setting, guests can enjoy a relaxing vacation!
