Gut Rossin

Creative place in the making

The house is still a work in progress; a group of friends of the house, initiated by two architects from Berlin, is overseeing the phased renovation as well as the use of the building that is currently possible within the scope of the partial restoration.

The Rossin Manor House, with its consistently simple design, is a remarkable Neoclassical building that never ceases to surprise visitors. Inside, the house reveals an impressive interior, bearing witness to the artistic and cultural sensibilities of its builder, August Friedrich Theodor Kolbe. Built in 1836, four columns flank the staircase running along a north-south axis and support the centrally located octagonal glass dome. Much like a sundial, light streams through this dome into the spacious staircase.

Dr. Heinrich Berghaus—who served as professor of applied mathematics at the Berlin Academy of Architecture in 1824 and was a geodesist and cartographer—mentioned the Rossin estate in his “Landbuch Herzogthum Stettin 1865” as one of the most beautiful estates in the Anklam district.

Since 2020, the manor house has been undergoing careful renovation. Drawing on its history and holding its architectural heritage in high regard, the operators regularly make the spacious rooms available for cultural events. Art and craft workshops are taking root. In 2023, the first section—the south facade—was restored so that it now appears in its original condition and splendor for the first time. Simple lodging, rooms for workshops or events, a communal kitchen, and an enchanted garden offer opportunities for creative expression.

In 2023, an episode of the Gutshaus Podcast about Rossin was produced, and a book by Gutshauspod was published, to which Gut Rossin contributed.
