Ludwigsburg Palace was built in 1592 on the orders of Duke Ernst Ludwig for his wife, Sophia Hedwig. It is one of the last surviving buildings of the Pomeranian dukes in Germany. Ludwigsburg is also an authentic setting of North German Romanticism; for it was here in 1778 that the painter Friedrich August von Klinkowström was born, a companion of Caspar David Friedrich and Philipp Otto Runge. With its farm buildings, the complex documents a 19th- and 20th-century agricultural operation. The ensemble is rounded out by the small but exquisite palace chapel and a magnificent palace park.

For the Midsummer Remise, the Friends Association will open the castle on Sunday, June 21, 2026, for tours from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased on site. Coffee and cake will be sold in the association’s kitchen. The castle chapel and the mausoleum will be open in the afternoon.

Following the Midsummer Remise, the solstice celebration begins at 8:30 p.m. in accordance with historical customs: featuring a concert by the minstrels “Rabengesang” and a solstice bonfire. Admission to the solstice celebration is free—donations in support of the Friends Association and the musicians are appreciated. Starting at 6:00 p.m., the association’s kitchen will also offer hot food (soup and Vienna sausages), while supplies last.
