Schloss Schmarsow

Vorpommern-Greifswald

At the end of the 17th century, when the region was still scarred by the Thirty Years’ War, Joachim Philipp von Parsenow had this extraordinary manor house built. During our first visit in 2000, we were so impressed by the early Baroque building—despite its dilapidated condition and its unfavorable location along the county road—that we decided to purchase it from the municipality. Since very little had been altered to the building over the centuries, the renovation allowed us to restore the spacious floor plans from the time of its construction. The outdoor areas have been and continue to be developed, as far as they fall within our sphere of influence, and several outbuildings have been repaired.

Today, the castle houses vacation apartments and communal spaces used for concerts, events, lectures, and celebrations. The cooking classes featuring natural cuisine with Erwin Seitz are growing in popularity. The Eickstedt Hall is increasingly being used for conferences. The entire castle can be rented for a getaway in a historic setting or for special occasions.
