Nordwestmecklenburg

Hotel Schloss Gamehl is located just outside Wismar, nestled in the charming countryside of Mecklenburg. Enjoy peace and relaxation combined with modern comforts. Schloss Gamehl offers not only a unique atmosphere but also picturesque surroundings. From here, you can enjoy attractive day trips to the nearby Baltic Sea coast, into nature, or to Mecklenburg’s diverse cultural highlights.

The history of the Gamehl manor house has been intertwined with that of the Stralendorff family since 1386. It all likely began with a small defensive tower on a small island in the lake during the conquest of Mecklenburg by Henry the Lion (1129–1195). Nestled within a Baroque estate complex dating from 1711, Ulrich Josua von Stralendorff had a single-story house built. In 1860, District Administrator Franz von Stralendorff commissioned the Wismar architect H.G. Thormann to build the present-day manor house in the Neo-Gothic style.

For over 600 years, with the exception of the GDR era, Gamehl was and remained the family’s ancestral seat and center. Gamehl Castle was reacquired in 2000 by Georg von Wallis and Dagmar von Stralendorff-von Wallis and restored through extensive work. Great care was taken to restore the brick building and its interiors to their original structure, preserving all characteristic stylistic elements and their original forms and colors.
