Gutshaus Zarchlin
Ludwigslust-Parchim
Built in 1879, the Zarchlin manor house—nestled among ancient trees and endless fields on the outskirts of the small village of Zarchlin—tells a fascinating story of its architectural history, from the exterior to the interior. From its origins as the residence of the landowning family to its later roles as a town hall, a cooperative store, and a venue for festivals and celebrations during the GDR era. Since 2017, the house has been renovated in accordance with historic preservation standards, always with an eye toward the building’s original traditions. The original windows were restored and painted with linseed oil paint, the walls were replastered with clay and lime, and the old plank floors and half-timbered beams were refurbished. In the fall of 2022, the restoration was honored with third prize in the Federal Prize for Craftsmanship in Historic Preservation. Even today, the guesthouse remains a versatile space for a variety of uses—from retreating to one of the nine apartments to socializing in the communal and reception areas. Whether for couples, families, or as a venue for workshops and seminars. As an added bonus, musicians can set the right mood in the rehearsal room or hall.
