Gutshaus Niendorf
Nordwestmecklenburg
The Niendorf manor house was built around 1860 by the Mecklenburg architect Georg Daniel. It had been owned by the von Brandenstein family since 1827. Joachim Freiherr von Brandenstein managed the estate at Niendorf between 1906 and 1941. He studied law, worked in the estate administration of the Wittenburg district, and served in the State Ministry in Schwerin from 1900 to 1906. From 1906 to 1918, Baron von Brandenstein was a minister at the Prussian court and Mecklenburg’s representative to the Federal Council; in 1924, he became Prime Minister of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. After 1945, the manor house was used as a residence, a kindergarten, and a cooperative store. The park still features a stand of old trees today. Of particular note are two old oak trees and a large magnolia directly behind the house.
Since 2021, the Niendorf Estate has been carefully renovated by Marcus Thannhäuser and Christoph Rode-Thannhäuser.
During the Midsummer Festival, regular guided tours of the park and manor house are held. Starting at 10 a.m., visitors can explore the grounds and park on their own.
You can enjoy delicious pastries and cakes at the Gutshaus-Niendorf Garden Café. Master pastry chef Marcus Thannhäuser creates these works of art in the estate’s own bakery.
Guided tours of the park and manor house are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
