Gutshaus Gevezin
Seenplatte
If you look at old estate complexes in various parts of the Mecklenburg Lake District, you’ll notice that almost all of them have the same layout. Stables, barns, and granaries are grouped around a central area—the farmyard—along with the steward’s or overseer’s house and, of course, the manor house near the church. The Geveziner estate complex was also laid out in this way. Many of these buildings are still preserved and in use today. The current manor house was designed in 1912 by a Berlin architect for the landowner Dr. Adolf Baron von Buengner, for whom he had previously designed a manor house in nearby Puchow. The original manor house was presumably demolished or burned down. An eventful history followed. After 1945, it was initially used as refugee housing. During the GDR era, it served as residential space; additionally, the attic housed a consumer cooperative, a movie theater, a classroom, and a youth center. In 1997, Berlin retiree Karl-Heinrich Gehricke acquired the manor house, which subsequently gained fame as the “Indian Museum.” In 2013, the current owner took over the manor house and is maintaining and renovating the property. Here, she hosts guests who love the charm of the manor house just as much as she does.
