Alte Direktion Malchin
Seenplatte
The Alte Direktion is the former administrative building of the Friedrich-Franz Railway, dating from 1864. This historic landmark stands as a symbol of Mecklenburg’s early railway history and of an era of profound technical and social change.
After standing vacant for nearly 20 years and falling into increasing disrepair, the building is currently undergoing extensive renovation. The hourly tours provide insight into the current status of the work, issues related to historic preservation, and the building’s planned future. Plans call for it to be used as a hotel and to include spaces for events.
The tours lead through the building and across the adjacent grounds. Access is via the entrance near the train station.
